KANGAR (Feb 15): The RM368 million Kangar City Centre (KCC) project, which is scheduled to begin construction in the next three to five months, will become a new landmark for the state capital, said Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.
A collaboration between the Perlis State Economic Development Corp and Safuan Group, he said the mega project would be developed on a 1.6ha site near the Putra Regency Hotel.
Construction work on the KCC will begin once the approval is received from the Kangar Municipal Council and the project is scheduled for completion in 2010, he told reporters after launching the project at the Putra Regency Hotel here yesterday.
The project entails the construction of serviced apartments, shoplots, a five-star hotel, a shopping complex, exhibition and conference halls, and a parking area.
The mixed-commercial development project will be developed in two phases, and is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs.
“As a freehold, high-impact project, we believe that it would attract bumiputeras, non-bumiputeras, as well as foreign purchasers,” he said, adding that the apartment units would be priced from RM200,000 per unit.
Meanwhile, the shopping complex project will include the construction of a 10-hall movie theatre, a recreational area, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, restaurants, and high-powered elevators, said Azlan, adding that the KCC would have 24-hour security service.
Safuan Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Matshah Safuan said the facilities provided at the KCC would elevate Kangar’s status as a modern commercial centre, on par with that of Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru, Melaka and Penang.
